World Faith Abuja
YOUPEDA
Lead by Obi Peter Daniel Onyeigwe, YOUPEDA began as a small grassroots group of youth volunteers who felt compelled to prevent future violence. As it grew, it remained focused on providing intervention in many forms, from medical services for pregnant women to school supplies for resettlement schools. As part of their efforts to involve surrounding communities, they conducted a 3-day medical outreach in 2016, bringing medical professionals to the camps to provide quality care. YOUPEDA continues to visit IDP camps and work to improve the lives of the people living there through medical aid, donated items and simply validating their personhood through talking to them and providing them with contact to the world outside their camps.
World Faith Abuja also piloted a new program in 2015 that taught women the entrepreneurial and technical skills to start their own tailoring business. This program helped the women become financially independent while also supporting the local economy, the featured women have gone from having no knowledge of sewing or tailoring to the advance level of making bags, dresses etc, which has attracted new markets and grown very profitable for the participants.
