WHITTIER – When Shirley Streeter’s husband lost his job almost 10 years ago, the couple went to the Interfaith Food Center to help make ends meet.
In January 2002, Arthur Streeter died.
And Shirley Streeter, 75, had a greater need to go to the center.
“It has helped out a lot,” she said.
Like most seniors, Streeter lives on a fixed income.
The center was established in 1983 by a group of local churches and synagogues concerned about seniors, living in Whittier, La Mirada and Norwalk, suffering from malnutrition because their Social Security dollars were not enough to buy food.
The group organized and started the Interfaith Food Center as a community-based food distribution center, serving 30 low-income families. READ MORE
