The Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners (IOCP) wants to help 900 families facing housing emergencies. So far, it’s collected enough funding to help about 500.Volunteers who have slept outside in the cold this November and December to raise money for the homeless had brought in $976,254 as of Monday for the Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners organization this year.

But there’s still a long way to go to meet the group’s 2010 goal of $1.8 million.

Now in its 15th year, the Sleep Out is IOCP’s annual campaign to raise money for the emergency housing needs of people living in Hamel, Long Lake, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka Beach, Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata.

The funds raised to date are enough to help 488 families in need. The goal is to be able to help 900 families.

The organization uses the money to help families avoid foreclosures and stay in their homes. It also contributes money to get affordable housing built and it subsidizes families who need short- and long-term housing.
