Buddhist monks from Bainbridge Island will lead the portion of the annual Interfaith Peace Walk that stops at the southern gate of the Hanford nuclear reservation this week.

The monks are on a prayer walk for world peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons that began in Eugene, Ore., and will end Aug. 9 at the Trident nulcear submarine base at Bangor.

At 3:30 p.m. today the monks will lead a Richland walk from Christ the King Church, 1111 Stevens Drive, to the John Dam Plaza on George Washington Way. An opening ceremony will be held at the plaza at 4 p.m.

At 7 p.m. today the video White Light and Black Rain will be shown in the gathering space at Christ the King Church.

The 2007 documentary covers the atomic bombing of Hiorshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in the eyes of survivors.

A collection to cover the monks’ expenses will be collected.
