Hands of Peace and the Rotary Club of Glenview Sunrise: “Reach Out To Embrace Humanity”.

Hands of Peace is an interfaith program that was founded in 2002 by Christian, Jewish, and Muslim members of the Glenview community. It is dedicated to developing peace-building and leadership skills in Israeli, Palestinian and American teens through the power of dialogue and personal relationships. Each summer, Glenview hosts an exchange program bringing Israeli, Palestinian, and American youth together for programs of dialogue and interaction in hopes that ignorance and fear can be replaced with understanding and connection. This program teaches team-building and leadership skills, helps the participants learn about different cultures and religions, guides them in learning about the conflict from different points of view, and encourages them to explore ways to incorporate peace-building into their personal lives and communities. There is also time for a lot of fun, too!

On July 19, Glenview Sunrise Rotarians joined Hands of Peace participants at Glenview Community Church for a picnic lunch made possible by funds raised by the Rotary Club of Glenview Sunrise’s Annual Run. This year’s Chase the Bear Run, our 14th annual, will occur on September 18, 2011.
