AN interfaith network will be formed to unite residents of different religions.

Moonee Valley Council’s Interfaith and Intercultural Community Advisory Committee has received a $15,000 State Government grant to develop the network.

Rev Duncan Reid, from St George Anglican Church in Flemington, said connecting community leaders would help promote understanding of different faiths, on activities like bus tours.

“It’s really about meeting the people of those communities, but certainly visiting their place of worship is an important step.”

Inderbir Singh, who is a member of the Sikh community, will also be part of the network and hopes it will help residents understand all the different cultural and faith groups in their community.

“It will make a really nice multicultural place in Moonee Valley,” Mr Singh said.

Mayor John Sipek (pictured) said the council would help get the network up and running but it would be driven by the community.
