A spring Interfaith picnic was celebrated at Sunset Park on May 1. Protestants and Catholics, Mormons, Quakers and Christian Scientists joined Jews, Muslims and others — even some who described themselves as nonreligious.

State College Mayor Elizabeth Goreham welcomed all to the park and expressed great enthusiasm about Interfaith Initiative activities. State College Borough Council member Don Hahn and his wife, Cynthia, also attended.

Rabbi David Ostrich, from Congregation Brit Shalom, sang a blessing in ancient Aramaic: “Blessed is the compassionate one, ruler of the world, owner of the bread (we have eaten). You are the source of life for all that is, and your blessing flows through me.”
