International Women´s Day 2012

On March 8, 2012, Interfaith Youth in Action (IYA) and World Faith Pakistan (WFP) have inaugurated the 2nd World Adult Education Center in Bombay, Jogian Taj Park Lahore, Pakistan. More than 65 young women and 12 volunteers of IYA/WFP participated in the inauguration ceremony and the capacity building seminar which took place in the context of the International Women´s Day 2012.

The seminar´s topic was gender sensitization in the society of Pakistan. The seminar helped domestic workers and less educated women to understand their value in society and to raise awareness of gender issues in Pakistan. The participants acquired skills in how to tackle gender issues with a proactive approach.

In the course of the inauguration ceremony, 28 young women enrolled at the 2nd World Adult Education Center to learn reading and writing as well as to enhance their knowledge about social and legal issues in Pakistan. 20 volunteers from diverse backgrounds will teach and train them from March to August 2012 and at the same time develop personal relationships and promote interfaith dialogue in order to reduce interfaith misconceptions and conflicts.
