Religion plays an important role in many people’s lives, and even those who do not belong to a particular faith have opinions and questions about religious matters.

However, aside from places of worship, there are few places where individuals feel comfortable openly talking about religion.

The mission of the Interfaith Initiative Centre County, founded about a year ago, includes “promoting respect, understanding, cooperation and friendship among Centre County’s faith communities and their individual members.”

The organization will hold informal coffee hours from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday and 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Panera Bread, 148 S. Allen St., State College. I recently attended the kickoff event and chatted with several Interfaith Initiative members about the progress that the organization has made in the past year and its goals for the future.
