World Faith seeks Project Manager & Resident Trainer in New York City area. This is a 40 hours/week temporary one year contract. It is a full-time position (Monday-Friday overtime not available) and we intend to fill one role.

Duties and Responsibilities

To co-ordinate and develop the training and delivery phase of an interfaith educational project working in NYC high schools, including:

●Developing clear processes for the project, including strategic development plan and fundraising strategy

●Recruiting and supporting a network of volunteer speakers who will present their different cultures and beliefs to young audiences

●Recruiting and supporting a network of facilitators who will lead the workshops as impartial moderators

●Delivering training to both the above networks,

●Arranging workshops in schools and developing relationships with school staff

●Building stronger relationships with culture and belief communities (including communal organisations, schools, youth groups and places of worship) in order to recruit suitable Speakers and Facilitators

●Acting as chief point of contact for content creator based in the UK, regarding adaptation of programme content and processes to the US context while retaining the core ethos

●Designing and executing monitoring and evaluation processes

●Targeting and arranging for potential donors and stakeholders to observe workshops in schools

●To manage the project’s finances, and contribute to the design and delivery of the project’s fundraising strategy

●Providing consultancy to other interfaith/intercultural initiatives as and when required

General duties:

● To speak and write about the work in public e.g. at conferences, news articles, web forum.

● To manage the upkeep and promotion of the organisational website and social media, and the creation of marketing materials

● To undertake other initiatives necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

● To promote good relations between people of different cultures and beliefs

 

Person specification

We are looking for an experienced interfaith or intercultural trainer with excellent delivery skills, who is also a confident project manager. It is essential to have sensitivity to the issues surrounding this area of work and proven commitment to the aims of World Faith, especially the importance of interfaith and intercultural work with young people.

Education

● Undergraduate Degree essential

● 5 years’ relevant vocational experience in the interfaith/intercultural field e.g. youthwork, informal education

Skills and abilities

● A self-starter with the ability to be adaptable to changing circumstances

● Excellent training delivery skills

● Excellent project management and co-ordination skills

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when communicating with young people

● Proven financial management skills

● The ability to manage others and remain accountable to several stakeholders

● Good capacity for self-directed working and also working with remote partners via Skype

● Proven ability to work with, and create excellent programmes for, a wide range of people, particularly young people and students of different faiths and backgrounds

● Confidence using IT essential, with excellent working knowledge of Word and Excel

● Manage a website that uses Drupal including adding and editing content

● Good skills in social media and online communications

● Ability to bring an imaginative, enthusiastic and innovative approach to work and to work under pressure and manage changing priorities

 

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

● Experience managing interfaith education/training projects, ideally a speakers bureau

● At least three years’ experience of working in an education setting, directly working with young people on interfaith/intercultural educational programmes using informal techniques

● Some understanding of leadership processes in schools and school districts and governing bodies of schools of different character (i.e. public, private, single-faith, beacon)

● Good working knowledge of different faiths/beliefs

● Experience of working with different faith and cultural communities

Desired

● Some knowledge of relevant school curricula

● Experience or knowledge of conflict transformation/peace building methodologies an advantage

● Teaching experience an advantage

● Good understanding of the issues relating to faith and inter faith relations in New York and the wider US. Knowledge of international relations and their impact on local engagement.
