MORE effort is needed to reach out to the young so that they do not forget the decades of effort that have gone into building religious harmony in Singapore, said Member of Parliament Zaqy Mohamad yesterday.

Mr Zaqy said that, in the age of online social media, Singaporeans cannot take religious harmony for granted because there are online messages that are untrue or carry misconceptions.

“One thing that I hope we don’t lose, especially among the young, is that preparedness to sit down and understand people of various faiths and religions,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a Vesak inter-faith event held at the Asian Civilisations Museum.

The event was organised by the Buddhist Fellowship and attracted about 300 people.
